Caminhando Seagull Project for Young People with Disabilities

Program Seagull

This is a program by Caminhando which focuses primarily on the socialization and involvement of young people with major cognitive disabilities.

It works to better the quality of life and promote social inclusion with cultural learning and social skills which lead to gaining autonomy and independence.

It facilitates cognitive development through art education experiences which help to gain awareness and control over the body as well as foster creativity and imagination.

Through this program we broaden the social and cultural horizons of these young people, bringing them to a better understanding of interpersonal relationships.

Caminhando Seagull Project for Young People with Disabilities

Target Audience

Young people between 14 and 30 years old, of either sex, with intellectual, physical, and hearing disabilities with a high degree of difficulty caused by disabilities.

Objectives

  • Enrich the lives of these adolescents and young people with disabilities by amplifying their capacity to learn, their self esteem, autonomy, and independence. 
  • Encourage cultural betterment as well as social skills to develop healthy citizens, in the context of artistic and educational activities. 
  • Assist with the learning of labor skills as well as the labor world creating possibilities of a future career. 
  • Include families as active partners in the process of their child’s social inclusion and development.

Program Phoenix
Caminhando Fênix Project for Young People with Disabilities

Program Phoenix

This is a program which facilitates the professional inclusion of young people with disabilities using social education training, work simulation experiences, and with practice offices. It inserts them into a wide range of activities which provides a concrete education on work activities with the objective of involvement in a career.

The students in this program, after training and evaluation as trained individuals, are on the path to inclusion in the job market.

Target Audience

Young people between 16 and 30 years old, of either sex, with intellectual, physical, and hearing disabilities, as well as people with two or more associated disabilities.

Objectives

  • Encourage the discovery of new possibilities for work and surpassing limits.
  • Contribute to the development of civic involvement.
  • Stimulate communication and promote self esteem.
  • Put young people on the path to be capable young working people.
  • Assist families in understanding the importance of their support and participation as active partners in the social inclusion of their student.
